Background:TestMyBrainDigitSpan(Chaytoretal.,2021;Hartshorne&Germine,2015;Singhetal.,2021;Treviñoetal.,2021)isadigitalversionofin-persondigitspantasks(e.g.,Richardson,2007)adaptedforremoteadministration.
TaskParameters:Afterbeingpresentedvisuallywithasetofnumbers(e.g.,153),participantsareaskedtorecallthosenumberseitherinorder(forwardversion,153)orreverseorder(backwardversion,351).Individualnumberswithineachsetarepresentedonthescreensequentiallyfor1000mseach.Initially, numbersetscontainonlytwonumbers,butincreaseuptoamaximumlengthof11numbers.Participantsarepresentedwithtwotrialsateachsetlength;ifatleastoneofthosetwonumbersetsisrecalledsuccessfully, thesetlengthisincreasedbyonenumber. Participantscompletetwounscoredpracticetrialsbeforebeginningtesttrials.
PrimaryOutcome:Thesuggestedprimaryoutcomeofthetestisthelengthofthelongestnumbersetforwhichparticipantsansweredatleastonetrialcorrectly(span).
UserInput:Participantsusingakeyboardusethenumberkeystomaketheirresponses,whereasparticipantswithoutakeyboardpressnumberbuttonsonthescreen.Iftheparticipant’sdevicehastouchcapability, atthebeginningofthetesttheparticipantwillbegiventheoptiontorespondusingtouchinputorkeyboardinput.Otherwise,theparticipantmustusekeyboardinput.
